Sharing Tails: A State-Wide Public Outreach Program Teaching Children About Native Arizona Fish

It is that simple.

Sharing Tails is a unique and exciting environmental outreach program that was created by local scientist, Carol Pacey. Few if any environmental programs reach out to kindergarten, first and second grades, and fewer still do so with information about native Arizona fishes, all the while supporting aspects of the Arizona Science Standards and Arizona’s Common Core Standards English Language Arts per grade level.

*** We Offer TWO Formats of Sharing Tails ***

In-school Field Trip

Primarily for kindergarten if this your school’s first year with our program as we hope to visit these kids as they move on to first and second grades, allowing our program to build each year as the kids grow and learn! Our fee* includes an in-school field trip for the entire kindergarten grade level with 1) pre- and post-visit presentation materials and 2) ~ 45 min presentation at your school with hands-on activities. Our program does not bring live fish as most Arizona fishes are threatened or endangered, but we bring lots of pictures, videos and props for kids to see and touch! For an additional fee*, schools may purchase fish toys, stickers or temporary tattoos! Sharing Tails

Camp Sharing Tails

If your elementary school already has an after-school care program, we can bring Sharing Tails to your school for an all-ages (K-5 or 8) after school, single-day camp! Kids will learn about Arizona native fishes through a fun, interactive presentation, experience what it is like to be a fish scientist with hands-on activities and gain appreciation for our state’s unique natural resources! Our fee* includes a two hour, onsite program with 1) presentation and 2) hands-on activities. Our program does not bring live fish as most Arizona fishes are threatened or endangered, but we bring lots of pictures, videos and props for kids to see and touch! Camp Sharing Tails

More About Marsh Education ~ From 2008-2011, Marsh & Associates, LLC, presented a free, state-wide, on-site, exciting native Arizona fish public outreach program, Sharing Tails, at public elementary schools. We traveled the state teaching kindergarten through second grade students about our native fishes, reaching about 33,000 students which exceeded our goal of 30,000 students. After 2011, we created Marsh Education in 2013, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 branch of our parent company, Marsh & Associates, LLC. Since its founding in 2008 the Native Fish Lab at Marsh & Associates, LLC has been a leader in native Arizona fish work. It had been a unit within the Department of Life Sciences at Arizona State University since 1980.
